I got up at 6am today! I was so tired from work yesterday that I passed out at 7pm under the auspices of "laying down for a while."

I have been working at the gallery all week and the past two days has been painting which is the most tiring (and most boring) thing i do there. But it's coming along, and the gallery is looking so nice with a fresh coat of paint. And it's nice to be doing stuff and having full days.

So, OK OLD PEOPLE and morning people: I can see the allure of your time. I woke up, did yoga, took a leisurely shower, went to the grocery store, made breakfast and even mended a pair of pants--all before I left for work! And yes, the grocery store is a god damned marvel at this time compared to any other time of the day. Not only is it much less of a clusterfuck, everything is actually stocked. OK, OK I know grandmas have been preaching this for as long as there have been grandmas and grocery stores, I get it.

Yes, it is nice, and really makes you feel like you are on top of the day, and yes it makes me wish I could get up early all the time, but unfortunately it generally takes something like me falling asleep at 7 for me to want to get up so early. Although, if I just went to bed at 10 or some other reasonable hour I could probably get up at least a little bit earlier. Maybe this will inspire me to try and do so.

I think I just have a hard time getting to sleep in general. My brain races and I have to wait until I mentally and physically exhaust myself before I can sleep. But really the key is to do a lot of stuff during the day so you 1. are tired and 2. don't feel like you have to stay up to get things done. And of course having a regular eating and sleeping schedule is also really good.

I'm just going to enjoy the day!

Fixed my mobile phone on the way home from the airport yesterday. Still no car. Maybe tomorrow morning.

Beautiful, clean, lovely, scoured-by-mother apartment. Painted doorframes, red bedspreads. I have real knives in a real knife block, a coffee plunger, a set of cutting boards. Steve was signed--celebratory drinks in my short white bathrobe at ten pm. Put on a dress for Jason and Adam. Laughs, sardonic humour, the dreaded Pabst making its presence known in my home. Forgiven, this time....

I bought leopard print heels and red heels and a bright blue boho-chic dress this morning: the obvious result of reading two issues of British Elle and a British Vogue in the twelve hours journey from Shannon to, finally, Pittsburgh*. Craved a fashion fix like drugs.

[*Cried as the plane touched down, as I distinctly thought I felt the presence of a land of people who have loved me for a long time.]

Wife and I hugged and screamed and squealed and hugged and hopped and hugged even harder. Felt ridiculous and burst out laughing in my kitchen. Touched each other's altered hair. Loved loved loved. [Lub lub]

Dreamlike state. Dreamlike state. Dreamlike state. Blissful. Smell of Dior "Cherie" on skin [duty free purchase = irresistible]. Not afraid to be alone in kitchen, in bedroom, in bed. Amazing, as-yet-unfelt feeling.
Already, though, ambivalence regarding future plans, school, the possibility of a significant other in near or distant future. Girls suggest against him. Logic suggests against him. Mind and four months of separated meditation plead forgetting.
Stupid, stupid, stupid. Maybe. Or just jet-lagged and illogical. Hoping desperately for this.

Car returns triumphant, tomorrow or Thursday. Fingers crossed. Feel as though am without legs. Lifts from father, mistress, coffee shop owner, post-drink.


Desire to be impersonal, impassive, to all except loved ones.

С 21 по 30 мая в кинотеатре "Художественный" в рамках фестиваля "Черешневый лес" во время проведения киноретроспективы "Взрослодетское кино" пройдет выставка детских рисунков режиссера Эйзенштейна. В фойе кинотеатра зрители увидят 134 рисунка. "Те приемы, которые классик кинематографа применял в своей практике во взрослом возрасте, уже видны в его детских рисунках. Это видно на примере того, как нарисованные им персонажи взаимодействуют между собой в массовых сценах", - сообщил директор Музея кино Наум Ихильевич Клейман.

Михаил Швыдкой доработает два месяца
Ведомство Михаила Швыдкого — агентство по культуре и кинематографии сольется с Минкультуры через два месяца. В агентстве говорят, что до этого времени будут работать «в прежнем режиме».

Вице-президент российско-шведской кинокомпании «Кино без границ» Антон Мазуров, напротив, считает, что деятельность агентства не имела положительного влияния на культуру: "Агентство занималось построенным на коррупции распределением государственных денег, а также мелкими скандалами по перетягиванию Московского кинофестиваля".
Работу ведомства в сфере кинематографа Антон Мазуров оценивает как «очень слабую»: «Нет поддержки молодого кино и кинофильмов, ориентированных на фестивали, давно назрели реформы кинопроката».
Но от закрытия агентства Антон Мазуров тоже не ждет ничего хорошего: «Закроется агентство под названием ФАКК — завтра по тому же адресу и в том же составе откроется новое агентство с теми же проблемами».

«Вчера был назначен новый министр культуры. Им стал известный дипломат, трижды в разных правительствах занимавший должность заместителя министра иностранных дел, Александр Авдеев. Это первый за постсоветское время министр культуры, происходящий не из культурных кругов.

Н.Михалков доволен назначением А.Авдеева на должность министра культуры и считает его человеком с твердыми убеждениями

"Я очень рад этому назначению, Авдеев - один из самых порядочных людей, настоящий человек слова", - сказал сегодня режиссер ИТАР-ТАСС. По его словам, он не раз сотрудничал с Авдеевым. В частности, новый министр принимал активное участие в перезахоронениях Деникина, Шмелева и Ильина.

"Это доброжелательный, энциклопедически образованный, интеллигентный человек со своими твердыми убеждениями, от которых он никогда не отступал", - отметил Михалков. "Я очень надеюсь на Александра Авдеева, - сказал он. - Хочется верить, что его полномочия в качестве министра культуры будут расширены настолько, чтобы в его руках были сосредоточены и финансы, и культурная политика".

i'm ok. i think larson and i were eating lunch, or ice cream, when the quake in beijing happened. we came out of the mall and saw a bunch of people standing around but had no clue why they were outside - apparently they were evacuated for working in a tall office buildikng.

the chinese recently passed new disaster preparedness/response regulation - i hope that they are effective.

"Александр Алексеевич Авдеев родился 8 сентября 1946 года в городе Кременчуге. Окончил Московский государственный институт международных отношений МИД СССР в 1968 году." - так начинается биография нового министра культуры, размещенная сегодня на сайте "Вести.ру". Появились и первые отзывы: безработного на текущий момент М. Е. Швыдкого ("в высшей степени удачный кадровый ход") и директора Эрмитажа М. Пиотровского ("высококультурный человек, с которым будет легко работать"). Но это все риторика, в некотором смысле, ритуальная, светская. Интересно же было бы узнать ваше мнение: что вы думаете о новом назначении, является  ли оно, вкупе со структурной реформой Минкульта, шагом к новому Музею кино? А может быть вам известно что-нибудь об Авдееве помимо изложенного в его биографии?

Так, например, сегодня главный редактор радиостанции "Эхо Москвы" А. Венедиктов заявил, что Авдеев - хороший организатор и что это даже хорошо, что он не из культуры - он из политики, а это сейчас важнее.

"Эксперт-Онлайн" пишет, что "Авдеев известен как покровитель искусств, а также обладатель необычного хобби: в свободное от работы время он делает рамы для картин. Вообще, в отличие от своего предшественника, выходца из консерваторских кругов, новый министр культуры предпочитает изобразительное искусство. Он даже посетил проходившую в Париже прошлой осенью выставку «Соц-Арт», которую Соколов, напомним, называл «позором России». Разгоревшийся тогда скандал во многом предопределил судьбу бывшего министра."

Положительно отзывается об Авдееве и французский писатель Марек Хальтер. В интервью РИА "Новости" он рассказывает интересную историю о своем знакомстве с Александром Авдеевым во время митинга у посольства Советского союза в Париже.

Для справки. Последний официальный ответ о судьбе Музея кино был получен нами в ноябре 2006 года. Это был ответ на наш вопрос Президенту РФ В. В. Путину о Музее кино.В этом ответе анонимные представители упраздненного сегодня Агентства сообщают о том, что «Вопрос о строительстве нового здания для Музея кино будет решен на государственном уровне в рамках подготовки к празднованию 100-летия отечественного кинопроизводства».
